“ Cork Tower, Lancaster PA” The iconic brick switching tower, constructed when the station was built in 1929, guided all of the heavy freight and passenger traffic through Lancaster on the Pennsylvania Railroad's main line, local branch lines and sidings.. The tower was originally named the Lancaster tower but was changed to Cork in the early 1930s. The Lancaster station was dubbed "Cork" because of the large amount of freight traffic produced by Armstrong Cork Co. The tower was closed in March of 2014.
